La Bettola di Terroni got its name from the Italian word “bettola,” which means a humble tavern or inn. Terroni means “of the earth” and refers to fresh soil that takes on a yellowish hue once dried in the sun; over time, “terroni” became a derogatory appelation that Northern Italians used for southern Italian laborers. 🧱
The restaurant is part of the Terroni restaurant family, which was founded by Cosimo Mammoliti and his wife in 1992. They chose the name Terroni for their restaurant as both an homage to their southern Italian heritage and as a nod to the pejorative term used by northerners to describe their southern counterparts.
The original Bettola di Terroni is located in the core of the financial district in Toronto, Canada. It has had an L.A. outpost at Beverly & Curson since 2007.

Terroni will be the only Italian restaurant in Larchmont Village proper. Nearby, you can find Osteria Mamma and Osteria La Buca on Melrose Avenue, a few small blocks from the boulevard.
