How fitting for Valentine’s Day!

A new vendor joined the Farmers Market today — selling Red Velvet Cake and other love-inspiring delights!

Had to crouch down to take the picture because there were so many people crowding around.

Not sure they’re going to be back next week. They also had carrot cake and tarts.

Red velvet cake’s origins are somewhat obscure, with roots tracing back to the Victorian era when bakers experimented with cocoa to create softer cakes. The cake gained significant popularity in the United States after the 1920s, when the Adams Extract Company marketed a recipe using red food coloring. Notably, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City claims to have played a pivotal role in popularizing the cake in the 1950s, making it a staple at celebrations and special occasions.
