Bella Sol’s Mango Salsa & Tortilla Chips

Published on: Dec 27, 2009

It all started when a Girl Scout troop leader began selling homemade salsa outside their local church Sunday mornings. The first year, she sold 50 bottles; by the fourth year, she was up to 380 bottles. That’s when she and her husband realized there was a demand out there for their mango salsa. And that’s how 14 months ago, Maria and Alfredo Lopez started Bella Sol Foods.

Alfredo Lopez of Bella Sol Foods

What makes Bella Sol‘s salsas different from the rest is that  they come in two uncommon variants: mild and medium-hot, instead of spicy or very spicy. Their angle is that it’s kid-friendly, and you can use it to wean children off sugar-laden ketchup. But it’s the adults that you actually see enjoying the salsa at the Larchmont Farmers Market every Sunday.

As for how salsa beat out ketchup to become the number-one popular condiment in America, it’s all thanks to chips! And Bella Sol offers three flavors of tortilla chips – Black Bean with Flaxseed, Black Bean Jalapeno with Flaxseed, and Yellow Corn. They are all gluten-free of course and go perfectly with the salsa.
