Freddo on Larchmont?
A popular Greek iced coffee beverage that has been enjoyed for decades, a freddo is made with fresh espresso and frothed milk, combining the refreshment of a cold coffee with the robust flavor of a double espresso.
No, “Freddo” is not a Greek word. It is an Italian word meaning “cold.”
The Freddo drink originated in Greece in the 1990s when espresso machines became popular there. But the name “Freddo” comes from the Italian word for “cold”, referring to it being an iced coffee beverage.
The Freddo was inspired by the pre-existing Greek iced coffee drink called a Frappe, which was made with instant coffee. When espresso machines were introduced, Greeks adapted the Frappe concept but used fresh espresso instead of instant coffee, creating the Freddo.
