Published on: Jan 7, 2010
January 6 is Three Kings Day, also known as the Feast of Epiphany. Le Pain Quotidien comes out with Kings Cake every year a few days after Christmas.
King Cake or kingcake is what it’s known as in the South. It’s popular during the Christmas season in France, Belgium and Switzerland as La galette des Rois. A whole cake with crown is 14.95, a slice is 2.75.
Also on the right is le cougnou or bread of Jesus, another traditional treat in Belgium and the Low Countries during the holidays. PQ describes their cougnou as “organic brioche with raisins and pearls of sugar.” Price: 2.95
