Larchmont Bungalow: Trial Date

June 12, 2012

A quick recap of what happened today in Division 40 of the Criminal Courts Building in downtown LA.

The hearing this morning was for setting the trial date in the city’s case against the illegal restaurant Larchmont Bungalow.

The defendant told the court he is not guilty and will formally enter a plea on the three criminal charges on August 14th. He has been instructed to remove the chairs from his property by that date. For those unfamiliar with this case, this is because Larchmont Bungalow has absolutely NO PERMIT to operate a restaurant or any kind of food-service business; the last permit issued for that space was for food-retail and it was revoked in 2009. The judge in the civil case has ruled that that revocation was proper.

The calendar shows that the criminal trial may finally be held on September 21st.

What happens if the chairs are not removed? The judge will decide in light of the fact that the defendant is currently out on his own recognizance. The three criminal charges and the request for an arrest warrant were filed back in early 2010.
