Question: Which popular celebrities live in Larchmont?

Answer: Larchmont Boulevard between 1st Street and Beverly Boulevard is a shopping district.  It’s the more general area of Windsor Square and Hancock Park where the rich celebrities reside. People – those recognizable and not – can be seen strolling along with their dogs and going about their business (shopping, picking up fan letters from the postal mailbox) in Larchmont Village.

Famous celebrities in the area :

Judy Greer – her fave spots are Chevalier Books, Larchmont Wine & Cheese, Larchmont Beauty Center, Pickett Fences, and Village Pizzeria

George Takei (Sulu on Star Trek) lives in Hancock Park.

Antonio Villaraigosa’s official residence as Los Angeles mayor is The Getty House on Irving Boulevard in Windsor Square.

Manny Pacquiao, the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer, bought a five-bedroom home on Plymouth Boulevard for $2 million in early 2009.

French fashion designer Christian Audigier (Von Dutch and Ed Hardy) lives in Hancock Park according to LA Mag.

Writer Francesca B. Delbanco and her husband, Nicholas A. Stoller (director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall), bought a seven-bedroom / seven-bath home at 500 S. Hudson Avenue in Hancock Park for $6.8 million on February 20, 2009. (Source)

Adriana Caselotti, who provided the voice of Snow White in the 1937 animated Disney movie, lived on Larchmont Boulevard itself. Her charming house with the wishing well is still an attraction in the area.

TV host Dayna Devon (entertainment show Extra) lives in Hancock Park.

Other celebrities who have lived near Larchmont Village in the past include Muhammad Ali, comedian Shecky Greene, and Nat King Cole. The post office at the corner of Western Avenue and 3rd Street is named after Nat King Cole.

Natalie Cole recalls in her autobiography Angel On My Shoulder that she went to Third Street School, which was the neighborhood public grammar school in Hancock Park, and her sister went to John Burroughs Junior High School, also in Hancock Park. Her family lived at 401 South Muirfield Road. “This was where the Shells of Shell Oil lived, the Chandlers (who owned the Los Angeles Times), the Van de Kamps, the family that owned the Vons supermarket chain, and Governor Pat Brown and his family. It was also where the Los Angeles chapter of the John Birch Society held its meetings.”

In The Big Sleep, Raymond Chandler’s novel, the district attorney Taggart Wilde “lived at the corner of Fourth and Lafayette Park, in a white frame house the size of a carbarn, with a red sandstone porte-cochere built on to one side and  a couple of acres of soft rolling lawn in front. It was one of those solid old-fashioned houses which it used to be the thing to move bodily to new locations as the city grew westward. Wilde came of an old Los Angeles family and had probably been born in the house when it was on West Adams or Figueroa or St. James Park.”

Dr. Naomi Bennett, a character on ABC’s television show Private Practice, lives in Hancock Park.
